Non-native invasive species now established throughout South Florida. Originally from Central and South America. Can grow over 5 feet long and weigh 20 pounds. Found on seawalls, trees, rooftops, and canal banks.

Behavior
Bask on warm surfaces. Excellent swimmers. Fall from trees when temperatures drop below 40ยฐF ('iguana falling' events). Burrow into seawalls and canal banks, causing structural damage.

Can deliver powerful tail whips and bites. Do not corner or grab. Wear thick gloves if handling.
Fun Facts
- FWC encourages humane removal โ they are not protected
- Can hold their breath underwater for up to 30 minutes

- Established population estimated in the hundreds of thousands
