Florida has one of the densest bald eagle populations in the lower 48 states. They nest earlier than northern populations — beginning in October — and are commonly seen near lakes, rivers, and coastal areas.
Behavior
Builds massive stick nests (up to 10 feet deep) reused for decades. Soars on thermals over water, then dives for fish near the surface. Territorial around nest sites.

Protected under federal law. Do not approach nests. Maintain 660-foot distance from active nests.
