A slow-moving, bottom-dwelling shark commonly found resting under ledges and in caves on Florida's reefs. Docile by nature but capable of a powerful bite if harassed. The most commonly encountered shark by Florida divers and snorkelers.

Behavior

Nocturnal feeder. Rests in groups during the day, often piled on top of each other. Uses suction feeding โ€” inhales prey off the bottom. Sluggish and rarely aggressive unless provoked.

Never touch, grab, or stand on a resting nurse shark. Their bite is extremely powerful with a crushing grip. Look before kneeling on the bottom while diving.
