The 'convict fish' of Florida's docks and pilings, named for its bold black-and-white prison stripes. Sheepshead are notorious bait stealers with human-like teeth designed for crushing barnacles and shellfish. A fantastic table fish that rewards patient, skilled anglers.
Behavior
Structure-dependent โ found anywhere with barnacle growth: docks, pilings, jetties, bridges, oyster bars. Uses strong incisors and molars to crush shellfish directly off pilings. Peak season is winter through early spring when they aggregate to spawn.

Strong crushing teeth can bite fingers โ never lip a sheepshead. Sharp dorsal spines require careful handling.
