A lightning-fast, beautifully spotted predator found throughout Florida's coastal waters. Spanish mackerel are the most common mackerel species in the state and a pier fishing favorite. Outstanding smoked or grilled fresh, they're one of the most fun fish to catch on light tackle.
Behavior
Fast-moving pelagic predator that hunts in schools, often slashing through bait schools near the surface. Migrates seasonally โ southward in fall, northward in spring. Incredible speed makes them one of the most exciting light-tackle fish.

Very sharp teeth โ use a wire leader and long-nose pliers. Handle with care as mackerel tend to thrash violently. High histamine risk if not iced immediately after catch.
