Suwannee Bass
Micropterus notius
Near Threatened
One of the rarest bass species in the world — found naturally ONLY in the Suwannee and Ochlockonee River drainages. The diagnostic turquoise-blue belly and chin make it unmistakable. Catching a Suwannee bass is a bucket-list species for dedicated bass anglers.
Behavior
Inhabits rocky limestone shoals and spring runs with swift current — very different habitat than largemouth bass. Primarily a crayfish specialist. Aggressive striker that hits small crankbaits and crayfish-pattern lures.
⚠️ Safety
Handle with care — this species has a limited range and population. Quick photos and careful release in current. Support the belly when lifting.
