Our Commitment
SwampSkimmer.com is committed to ensuring digital accessibility for people with disabilities. We continually work to improve the user experience for everyone and apply the relevant accessibility standards.
Standards
We aim to conform to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 at the AA level. These guidelines explain how to make web content more accessible to people with a wide range of disabilities.
Measures Taken
- Semantic HTML โ We use proper heading hierarchy, landmarks, and HTML5 elements throughout
- Keyboard Navigation โ All interactive elements are accessible via keyboard
- Skip Links โ A "Skip to content" link is available on every page
- Alt Text โ All meaningful images include descriptive alternative text
- Color Contrast โ Text meets minimum contrast ratios (4.5:1 for normal text, 3:1 for large text)
- Focus Indicators โ Visible focus styles on all interactive elements
- Reduced Motion โ Animations are paused when
prefers-reduced-motionis enabled - Form Labels โ All form inputs have associated visible labels
- Responsive Design โ Content reflows at all screen sizes without horizontal scrolling
Interactive Tools
Our interactive features (species identifier, catch calculator, gear checklist generator, interactive map) are designed with accessibility in mind:
- All tools are operable via keyboard
- Dynamic content changes are announced to screen readers via ARIA live regions
- The interactive map includes a text-based alternative listing all locations
- Form controls in calculators and generators have proper labels and error messaging
Known Limitations
While we strive for full accessibility, some content may have limitations:
- The SVG interactive map may be challenging to use with some screen readers โ a text-based table alternative is provided
- Some older content may not yet meet all WCAG 2.1 AA criteria
Testing
We test our website using:
- Automated testing with axe-core in our test suite
- Manual keyboard navigation testing
- VoiceOver (macOS) screen reader testing
- Multiple browsers and devices
